MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde
Stuart McMillan MSP was first elected as a West of Scotland regional MSP in 2007 before being elected as the constituency MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde in 2016. During his almost two decades as an MSP, he has been involved in a variety of local and national campaign issues covering subjects which include gambling, asbestos-related diseases, road infrastructure investment, and animal welfare, to name just a few.
Stuart first became aware of the concerns around the lack of regulation covering the medical aesthetics industry after a constituent contacted him in 2018 explaining that, currently, only healthcare professionals are regulated. Given the surge in demand for these treatments, and the growing range of procedures available to clients, Stuart agreed that regulation was necessary to improve health and safety in the sector. This work has brought Stuart into contact with various stakeholders to help inform his dialogue with the Scottish Government on this matter. A public consultation has now been launched by the Scottish Government to seek views on proposals to regulate the sector and provide assurances to everyone who accesses these services that the person performing them is adequately qualified and using regulated products.
